Rick Lagina: We Found Gold & Silver On Oak Island in Season 12

The discovery of gold and silver on Oak Island has sparked renewed excitement among treasure hunters and archaeologists alike. After years of painstaking effort, the Oak Island crew finally found tangible evidence that could lead them to the island’s long-lost treasure. The journey began with the restoration of the 18th-century Garden Shaft, believed to be the original deposit point for the treasure. As the crew continued their excavations, they uncovered a collapsed secret tunnel running toward the west, pointing them in the direction of a highly promising area known as the “baby blob.”
Through their work with deas Contracting Limited, they made a significant breakthrough with horizontal probe drilling, although they accidentally triggered a flood tunnel, which temporarily halted their progress. This leak, however, confirmed the existence of an ancient booby-trap system, reinforcing the idea that the island had been designed to thwart treasure hunters for centuries.
Among their discoveries were several intriguing artifacts, including a William III Shilling, which was identified as a silver coin from the 1690s. Though not part of the expected Spanish treasure, this coin, along with other items such as iron tools linked to 17th-century figures and Roman coins, adds weight to the theory that Oak Island may have been a hiding place for various treasure caches over time.
The team continues to make new discoveries in Lot 5, an area rich in artifacts spanning from the 1200s to the 1700s. The Roman coins, barter tokens, and other historical items suggest that different groups—perhaps even the Knights Templar—had an interest in Oak Island, fueling speculation about the treasure’s origins.
Though they haven’t yet found the elusive treasure, the team has found enough evidence to suggest that the island was indeed used to hide valuable items. Their research now points toward a long history of covert operations and failed treasure recovery attempts by various parties, including the British military. The discovery of gold and silver particles further suggests that the treasure may still be buried deep within the island.
Will the Oak Island crew finally unearth the treasure after all these years? The evidence they continue to uncover makes it seem like they’re closer than ever to solving the mystery. Stay tuned for further developments, as the team remains committed to uncovering the secrets hidden on Oak Island.
