$900,000 Suit & 4 Other Cold War Items | Pawn Stars

what do we got here man got a sign from the Berlin wall that I bought an estate sale it’s definitely a cool part of history for lack of a better term it just really sucked to live in East Germany okay on this side of the wall they have toilet paper as far as the I can see and this side of the wall you get it on [Laughter] Fridays I’ve come down to the pawn shop today to sell my sign from the Berlin Wall it does not match what would fit in my bar I’m looking to get $800 for it but I’ll go down as low as was 250 behind the sign there’s a letter from one of the captains in the US Army okay and it mentions that was at the 1 km Zone from the East West German border so I thought it had to be something during the Cold War during the Berlin Wall era how’d that come to be like where does it come down to we actually build a wall across the city well what happened with Berlin was it was part of the treaties after World War II that the Soviet Union controlled the eastern half of Germany the United States the allies controlled the Western half of Germany remember we were friends with the Russians they were the ones who helped us beat the Germans well everything soured real quickly between the United States and the Soviet Union next thing you know they’re putting up a wall that was the center of the Cold War it was pretty crazy until 1990 I mean their economy was more or less collapsing around itself suddenly democracy broke out and the Wall came down this is definitely a cool reminder of one of the biggest moments in world history when the Wall came down it was a sign that the Cold War and Decades of international tension were coming to an end I don’t believe this was in Berlin this was probably really close to a checkpoint you know uh a border crossing this told us Personnel stop right here and let’s decide whether you can go closer to the Border what do you want to do with it how much you want for it how about $800 um everyone’s going to think it’s cool but who’s going to buy it and hang it up their house you got a good point how’s 250 bucks up you know there’s history behind this how about we do 500 I’ll give you 350 bucks for it can’t do any better than that why would I where else you going to sell it I mean I’ll go um I’ll go 350 that’s the best I can do I don’t have a use for it my bar it’s a deal all right man thanks a lot thank you the lease I was going to take was $250 so I feel real good I got more than I was expecting so what exactly do we have here like a big flashlight this is known as a infrared heat seeker for The Sidewinder missiles they were attached to the F4 Phantoms and should I call Homeland Security now [Music] or I’m coming down to the pawn shop to sell my infr ated heat Seekers for the side Winder missiles the reason I want to sell them is because my father needs money there’s a lot of collectors out there would love to own one I mean who could someone could say that they have one of these it’s amazing amazing piece of technology Rick this is the first uh no we’ve never had a guidance system for a missile I’ve never really needed one so this was attached to the F4 yes and they were used to guide The Sidewinder missiles all right um so where did you get this thing well my father used to do military surplus bidding in the 70s and ‘ 80s and he bid on empty shipping containers 400 of them sealed bid he won it for $25 okay as he’s loading him into the truck he noticed some were heavy he opened it up and these were inside this is crazy a guy buys a bunch of run-of-the-mill shipping containers at a Government auction for 25 bucks and finds these inside that’s incredible but I got to dig a little bit more before I have the Air Force come breathing down my neck all right this is really cool but do you have paperwork from the Department of Defense or somebody saying you can own this thing yes they were supposed to have been destroyed but they ended up at the auction and this is all from the Department of Navy huh Dear Sir the copy of the board’s decision on you’re owning this Rick that’s official Navy documents it looks like it’s good to go okay so um apparently you own this but this isn’t an actual missile right it’s been decommissioned yes I believe they’re totally safe okay um it is cool though I mean I really do dig it before this you had to see your enemy yep these came out now you had dog fights where you were just looking at um a radar screen inside the cockpit right in 1964 this was so Hightech it was unbelievable this was cold war technology and um the whole thinking was not if we were going to go to war with the Russians it’s when it’s something you didn’t want to fall in enemy hands right if this really is a cold war ER heat seeker there’s all kinds of people I could sell it to Aviation collectors War collectors technology Geeks but I have to know for sure is this thing what she says it is or if it’s legal to buy it’s really interesting I’ll tell you that what I’m trying to figure out is what in the hell you going to do with it I mean are they worth any money I mean I don’t know if this thing’s worthless I don’t know if it’s worth $220,000 I I don’t even know if it’s legal own these things the last thing in the world I want to do is end up on the no fly list let me go give someone a call and we’ll find out what’s going on with it great if I can you can bet your ass I’m going to try and buy this thing I just don’t want to end up with federal agents knocking on my door hey guys how we doing this is it the heat seeking device for an F4 wow I’m a US Marine Corps fa18 pilot with 17 years of experience I’m a graduate of the naval fighter weapon School Top Gun and also a US Navy boo Angel pilot now this is a very interesting item I’m really surprised that you own this do you have documents that say that you can have this well what you do we have a letter that says we won them okay you know I almost didn’t believe Rick when he called me it’s actually a A9 heat seeker head they showed me documents and paperwork so they’re legal to own it it’s very rare to have that outside of a military base let alone in a pawn shop in Las Vegas so how exactly did these work this item is basically the top foot and a half of a 9ft heat seeking missile if we were to take off this Dome there would be a mirror in there with another reflecting mirror that would actually Spin and behind that we’ve actually got a filter and that filter would be able to decipher some heat seeking sources I.E an engine on a jet uh probably came out early 1960s this was leading technology so we went from shooting bullets either the 50 mm or the 20 Cal and then we expanded it to missiles and we were the first in the world to do that so instead of shooting from hundreds of feet we can now shoot out to a mile mile and a half so obviously that gave us an advantage early in Vietnam National Security is a big issue especially nowadays uh back in the 1960s actually this missile was compromised off a German base an A9 went missing it was trucked past the Iron Curtain and a year later the Communists had the exact same missile so that Advantage we had initially in Vietnam was gone by the late 1960s so you’re not like a Russian spy or anything are you yet okay so is there any collector value for this thing it’s in good shape on a 1 to 10 scales a fighter pilot I’d give it about a nine it’s it’s pretty neat uh no one really has one it’s really commercial value nothing I’ll be honest with you you know it’s hard to put a dollar on it but Aviation Museum Aviation nut you know heck I’d like to have one at home so all right thanks man you bet appreciate you coming out man good to see you as a fighter pilot who has fired the am9 missile it’s exciting to see this if you find a person that really is into it perhaps an old Vietnam F4 pilot or somebody like myself that could be a perfect item for him so how much were we looking to get out this about $3,000 no um I I just don’t know what to say I’m I’m thinking 500 bucks and maybe I can do something with it maybe I can’t I I don’t know it’s a real shot in the dark at 500 bucks you don’t think this is worth more Mone than $500 I think it’s a neat piece of history but it’s an antiquated thing that’s going to sit so 750 is out of the question 750 is out of the question I I’ll tell you what I’ll go 550 bucks and I’m crazy even buying it I think okay well we have more so I’ll take 550 okay 550 all right let’s go do some paperwork thank you I’m psyched I got this it’s something that’ll definitely get people in the door and have them talking even if I don’t sell it I’m just as happy having it sit on my shelf it’s awesome what do we got here we’ve got a Soviet Cold War era General’s uniform all right so what are you a communist uh no I I just like the uh that’s very good during the Cold War I was stationed in hi highberg Germany anything from the Eastern zone of course was very coveted I’d like to get around $11,000 I’m accumulating money so that I can go and continue my travels around the world I barely remember the whole Cold War thing I mean I was born right at the end of it yeah it is such a different world young people don’t even realize what it was like back then cuz I remember having nuclear bomb drills absolutely what did a nuclear bomb drill consist of uh getting underneath your desk cuz that’s going to save you from a nuclear bomb well they use the buddy system you call your buddy you drop your drawers he kisses your ass goodbye that’s true you know your grandpa was the blockade of really yeah you know here’s his ship here’s a Russian ship and they both got their guns pointed at each other and we had nuclear tipped Torpedoes and they had nuclear tipped Torpedoes the old man was probably trying to buy one off somebody the Cold War was terrifying we were literally on the brink of World War III for decades it’s amazing to think that the person who wore these uniforms was one of the bad guys so obviously both these jackets belong to the same general cuz it’s got all the same ribbons right I don’t know what all the metals are for I remember back in the 70s the ‘ 80s you’d see the Soviets on TV in their parades and these guys would have Metals just pulling their jackets off practically oh that’s absolutely right I mean that’s probably underwater basket weaving and this is probably because they visited a plum Farm does not have the order of linen I didn’t see that on there but that’s the only one that I the order of linen yeah that’s probably the highest yeah that’s like their highest order but you can only get that during World War II correct well no you can get that during any time that they determine okay well he was a big wasn’t he it’s not a commi I’d want to mess with that’s for damn sure see if it fits you wow too big on mean they were all bigger than life what do you want to do with them I I I want to sell them and how much you want I like to get $900,000 I could do $800,000 not 900,000 no no or no no I I meant or a th000 okay well I’m just going to forget you said a th000 and we’re going to start at 900 okay you’re tough I tell you um do you mind if I call someone up and look at them cuz I have no idea what they’re worth oh sure absolutely please do just hang out a little bit I’m going to go get a hold of thank you this guy stole your dad’s jacket I know this is going to come as a surprise but my dad was a little shorter than this these are huge holy smokes so he’s got some Soviet jackets obviously for generals I imagine can you tell me when they’re made is there any cool ribbons there most of these metals are post World War II okay you do have an order of lenen here which is important right there in the first one so we do have order of lenon yes you do the order of Lennon is the highest civil award uh given both to civilians and to the military for a contribution to the motherland it’s impressive and you’ll notice it’s first because it’s this guy’s highest medal okay and as you know Stalin killed most of his senior level leadership in the 30s so most guys got their start as officers during World War I and after the war in the Cold War okay he rose through the ranks like this guy there was nothing cold about the Cold War um we almost lost civilization many times uh the soviet’s idea of government was very different from our idea of government in the west so immediately there was a conflict and we knew that was coming what’s most interesting about this piece is the history behind it this guy was not in the military when he wore these uniforms because he was a member of the KGB okay this is these are KGB uniforms um the reason you can tell is they’ve got red piping he was a colonel general which is a three star general so this is is not a guy you want to cross and make upset okay he’s definitely a big son of a KGB is State security service not an organization you’d want to cross if you were living in Soviet Europe talk about Soviet control you’re talking about the KGB jackets I can probably tell you exactly when they were made um look at the buttons they are often dated this says um 76 more or less at the height of Soviet power at the height of Soviet hour these were made so what are they worth um for the pair 650 to 750 that it seems to me that it would be a heck a a lot more than that now that I know that that is a order of Lenin that makes me even want to get more money for it uniforms like this don’t attract the excitement that for example World War II era uniforms attract okay it’s just they’re too damn new yeah they’re just new I mean maybe in 50 years these things will be very valuable thanks for coming in man hey Rick thanks appreciate it well I’m not really happy about it I thought it’d be worth a $1,000 at least I’ll tell you what I’ll give you 400 bucks for them look at it’s got the order of lenon you can’t go any better than that I mean I I wish I could and I think 400 bucks is a fair price can I go 5 and a half no I’ll tell you what I’ll give you four and a quarter how about 450 I mean I just don’t know what they’re going to sell um everything sells eventually po yeah I just don’t want it be eventually 20 years from now I guess that’ll be my problem not yours right we’ll do 450 man appreciate it thank all right he’ll write you up meet me over there thank you $450 will probably get me a bottle of wine and a couple of good night stay when on my trip to Europe what do we got here it’s a high altitude helmet and suit that the Russians used to use wow was this like a halo suit I like Aviation because it is it’s Clos as you can get to the heavens I bought the suit about 5 years ago and I’m hoping to get 20 000 and the least amount I would be willing to take is around $800 I got this on an online auction I think it’s from around the 1980s so what is this is like during the Cold War or something yeah the Cold War was a crazy time I mean the United States in the Soviet Union competed for everything gymnastics in the Olympics all the way you know military to the Space Race I mean it was scary almost every day there was talks about us nuking each other they had just as many nukes as us and it was a mutually assured destruction is what it was called that’s why we never went to war with them is because there wouldn’t be a winner everybody would just die that sucks it’s crazy to think how many trillions of dollars the US and Soviet Union spent getting ready for a war war never really happened but all the spending helped kill the Soviet economy pretty ironic that overspending turned out to be the Real Enemy they need a suit like this because the higher you get the less oxygen there is correct so they actually had to pump oxygen into the helmet now the suit itself would actually stop the blood from like rushing into the top of their head oh wow what are you looking to get out of it um $2,000 okay I kind of have an idea of what it is I just I don’t know nearly as much as I should do you mind if I have a buddy of mine come down and check it out no that’d be great all right CH you want to go get marker call sure yeah man feel free to look around or whatever it uh grab you when he gets here okay thank you this is yours yes it is mine it was a cold war high altitude helmet and suit okay this is a high altitude suit the problem with going up that high is that as you go higher and higher and higher and you can’t just breathe whatever is in the air because there’s not enough oxygen up there these high pressure suits make sure that you have the right amount of oxygen in your system and replacing the air pressure that is not there wow so if you weren’t wearing one of these things you’d end up getting the bends in effect nitrogen would bubble out in your bloodstream you’d pass out from lack of oxygen before that but it would kill you as we started getting into jet planes in 1950s we started going faster and faster we also started going higher and higher suits like this were absolutely necessary it doesn’t do you any good to have somebody flying a plane who passes out out halfway through a maneuver you know that’s not as effective as a fighter pilot this is the type of suit that was most often used in the Soviet Union from the 70s through the 80s I have seen a number of them for sale in auctions they are out there all right Mark well I think you answered everything for me good appreciate it buddy no matter where you were in the Eastern block if you were piloting a MIG 31 or Mig 25 you were using this suit and this is how you were staying alive while you were doing that so what do you think I mean you heard what Mark said it is cool um but is it $2,000 cool I don’t think so uh what about 1,500 we’re still pretty far off man I’ll go 750 bucks this one or this one total total everything you know what this hurts me but the bottom line I’m going to take is A50 you’re going to walk out of here over a 100 bucks cuz I I can walk away for over 100 750 bucks is what I’ll pay how about 800 meat in the middle yeah 750 bucks 200 not 800 750 750 750 it’s the deal okay 750 J write you up take care of it come on leave leave it right here let’s go do some paperwork the cold war is fascinating for people who live through it especially Baby Boomers hopefully Boomers with a lot of disposable income what can we do for you today well I got this uh clock it’s a Air Force clock in the Cold War era I don’t know this looks like the clock right out of Night Rider if you ask me did you pay attention in history class or were you behind the door I don’t recall going to [Music] history I got the clock from my uncle who was a Air Force mechanic he took it out of some plane that he worked on back in the Cold War Days uh hoping to get $300 for it today but I’m willing to take as low as $100 don’t look that fancy it actually comes out of the cockpit control panel on the planes that were from the Cold War era so this could have been in a plane while it was on a mission yeah actually my uncle was a mechanic in the Air Force and came home with it one day gave it to my dad this is what is known as a universal clock really it went in all sorts of aircraft any instrument on a war plane has to be topnotch because mistakes on planes Stone end well so how long you had it in your family sir it’s been at least 50 years is it [Music] working yep it has the stopwatch capability that’s pretty cool they use that on bombing runs we do pretty good with military stuff but this clock is not in high demand so I’m not going to break the bank buy it what are you trying to get out of it looking to get around $300 well this stuff goes around 250 350 on the market I would be a buyer at about $150 this one still works and is in good shape can we meet in the middle at 250 no I’ll go to two and a quarter but I ain’t going no higher than that two and a quarter yeah I could do that all right go write it up Charmy you know what I’d love to but this clock says it’s time for lunch so you’re going to have to write it up today boss tell me I can’t use the computer write the damn thing up all right I’ll write it up before I go meet me over there okay I got $225 today I I think that’s a great deal so I’m going to use the money to probably shop for some movie memorabilia that I’m usually more interested in collecting than military for
